ABOUT OUR BUSINESS

Solutions for Success

For over 30 years, New Hampshire Materials Laboratory’s professional & experienced staff has been a “Problem Solving Partner” in the metal and polymer industries by meeting both routine and custom testing requirements.

Recognizing the need for a highly competent materials testing laboratory for the analysis of metals, ceramics and polymers, UNH Professor Frederick Hochgraf and his wife Sally founded New Hampshire Materials Laboratory in 1979. Our laboratory had a humble beginning in a Durham, NH garage. As the business grew we moved to Dover and then to our current location in Somersworth,NH where we have been for more than 15 years.

In January 2008, long time veteran Tim Kenney took over the reins of New Hampshire Materials Laboratory. Although, Tim is considered the CEO/President/Laboratory Director, he can be found working in the laboratory every day.

Along with Tim Kenney, NHML has a seasoned staff with expertise in failure analysis, metallurgy, mechanical engineering, metallography, microscopy, organic, inorganic, and analytical chemistry. They all help to service the growing list of customers within industrial and insurance industries including the Marine Surveyor sector, and governmental agencies.

*Note:

  1. Plate up to 3/4″ thick requires 2″W x 18″L; Plate greater than 3/4″ thick requires 2″W x 6″L.

  2. Bar or wire under 1/4″ diameter requires 18″ Long.

  3. Pipe up to 3/4″ wall thickness requires 12″ Long; Pipe greater than 3/4″ wall thickness requires 6″ Long.

  4. Grain direction is very important when submitting sheet or plate for testing. Always mark grain direction with an arrow.
